Designing a Sustainable Future Together

About Me

My name is Amber Lehrman and my family as lived in the Lawrence, Kansas area since 2003. I have a BSIE and MSIE (bachelors and masters in Industrial Engineering).  I earned my Permaculture Design Certificate from Midwest Permaculture in 2014.  I have trained over 400 adults in a variety of topics from food preservation to permaculture to natural childbirth since 2008.

Our front yard food garden...

My husband and I have been regionally recognized food gardeners.  We have been featured on both the Lawrence Food Garden Tour and the Kaw Valley Permaculture Tour for our urban garden where we raised over 1200 lbs of organic food on our 1/4 acre city lot for 4 years.  We moved from this house in 2013.

Our hand made house on the homestead

We bought 40 acres in southern Jefferson County in 2012 and we have been building a sustainable, off grid homestead there since. We have built our own slip form stone and timber frame home and have begun creating a food production system based on permaculture principals.  You can read more about our homestead journey here:  Lehrman's blog

Sustainability in the Community

I became a board member of the Kansas Permaculture Institute in 2016 and have been organizing their education programs since.  It is an amazing group!  I also started teaching EVRN 338 (Permaculture Design) through the University of Kansas in 2017.
